Hold on to your taste buds.
Chipotle is introducing braised Tofu Sofritas at all locations!
Order any Tofu Sofritas menu item on Monday, January 26th, and then bring your receipt back on your next visit—from January 27th through February 28th—for a FREE burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos of your choice. Bring your vegan and omnivore friends and introduce them to this new, cruelty-free option!
Chipotle was already pretty decent for vegans. We could get veggie burritos, salads, and even tacos. We were even able to pay less than omnivores for our vegetarian dishes. We were content. But now, Chipotle is taking us from content to euphoric.
What Are Tofu Sofritas?
Chipotle’s What’s Happening page: “We start with organic tofu from Hodo Soy that we shred and then braise with chipotle chilis, roasted poblanos, and a blend of aromatic spices. The result is a delicious, spicy tofu that will give vegans and carnivores something they both will love.”
Hodo Soy is known for its nutty-tasting (and non-GMO) tofu. You can enjoy your chili-inspired tofu dish in the same way as other protein options: in a burrito, burrito bowl, tacos, or salad.
In describing the dish, Lutz from Business Insider said: “The Sofritas dish has some heat, but is not nearly as spicy as Chipotle’s hot salsa. The item has a chili-like consistency, and could be added to meat without being overpowering. The chewy protein also stands on its own. There is no moment of ‘I’m eating tofu’ while you’re eating the bowl. This vegan product has widespread appeal.”
Tofu Sofritas are also a great option for those who may have made nutrition-related New Years’ Resolutions — coming in at just 145 calories, they’ll help you maintain your figure without losing out on flavor.
The only downside? Unlike the original vegetarian menu items, guacamole is not a free addition to the Tofu Sofritas dishes. Tragic.
“Vegans and Carnivores Unite” Over Tofu Sofritas
The Tofu Sofritas are the first addition Chipotle has made to their original menu in twenty years, so this is big. So big, in fact, that they will give you a free meal if you try it out!
Vegans have historically suffered in terms of fast food, having to deal with sneaky hidden ingredients and awkward conversations with their omnivore friends. However, times are changing. It is becoming easier and easier to find vegan options in restaurants and even large fast-food chains.
One small step for man, one giant step for vegans!
