Remember that you can have a spooky vegan Halloween too! Here is your guide to living vegan this Halloween:
Treats
Beware of seemingly vegan candies. I hand out a variety of candy to my trick-or-treaters and receive no complaints (or eggings)! The following treats have proven to be smash hits in my neighborhood:
Swedish Fish, a gummy, chewy fish-shaped candy.
Dum-dum Lollipops, one of the most classic treats out there.
Annie’s Organic Fruit Snacks, a wonderful assortment of fruit flavors.
Snap! Chocolate Bars, the only vegan candy bar that uses rice milk for a chocolatey coating.
And my personal favorite, YumEarth lollipops, vegan and kosher pops with addicting flavors.
Trick or Treat Bag
A tote bag is the most environmentally-friendly trick-or-treat bag. You can jazz it up with markers, homemade vegan-friendly glue, cotton felt and jewels. A tote bag can hold more candy and it is reusable for next year! For more tips on trick-or-treating, check out what Veg Family has to say.
Costumes
Homemade costumes are the most unique and most fun! You can also avoid animal products by purchasing your own materials, reusing recyclable materials (e.g., paper bags, plastic containers) and designing your own costumes. Some ideas are: a cowboy, a jewel troll doll, and a piglet (all of which can be made using scissors, markers/paint, paper bags, staples, plastic packaging and string). Party
Along with your decorations and vegan Halloween-themed treats (e.g., vampire blood punch bowl, vegan gummy bug treats in graham cracker dirt, ghostly decorated cookies), your Halloween party can feature fun, vegan-friendly games like bobbing for apples, pin the bowtie on the skeleton, cupcake decorating contest, pumpkin carving, dancing, guess how many Swedish fish in the jar (with prizes), and so on. Check out this Veg News article for additional party tips and a party menu.
Happy Halloween!
