Ice cream genius Ben and Jerry’s is inching closer to unleashing dairy-free vegan ice cream for all. The wait will end soon!
An urgency for a dairy-free ice cream option ensued with over 28,000 signatures accumulating on a Change.org petition asking Ben and Jerry’s to create a vegan variety. As a direct result, the ice cream titan came out with a quick announcement this month that they had plans to unleash a new vegan option for 2016. Initially, Ben and Jerry’s had first announced testing for this product line addition in July 2015.
What Is Ice Cream Without the Cream?
Since the announcements, dairy-free enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting to see what tasty flavors and chunky combinations would be available on shelves nationwide for 2016. Ben and Jerry’s has disclosed that their new vegan pints will be crafted from the ever-popular dairy free delight: almond milk.
Dessert can be creamy and luxurious without actual cream. “Besides being a favorite choice among vegans and other dairy-alternative-seekers, almond milk proved to be the best choice as an ice cream base, beating out soy milk, cashew milk and other contenders for our Flavor Gurus’ favor,” the company wrote in a statement, according to a Huffington Post report.
Vegans Aren’t the Only Ones Happy to Hear This…
The great thing about this addition is simply this: almond milk is an ideal alternative not only for vegans, but also for those with dairy intolerances and for those who prefer a healthier ice cream option. You don’t have to be vegan to indulge. And I am sure your taste buds will approve, based on other palate pleasing flavors. This also leads to a bigger thought: maybe you won’t feel so guilty eating a whole pint in one go? Let’s see.
While Ben and Jerry’s vegan variety will likely be a hit for ice cream lovers across the map, the corporation’s reaction to consumers is indicative of evolving trends in the food industry. Many brands we see in grocery stores have cut back on dairy and animal based products, including hair care, makeup, and food. So naturally, it’s a positive choice and a healthier option all around. What flavors are you hoping to see in the new dairy-free vegan ice cream?
