In an unsuspecting quaint area of Williamsburg nestled between ramen restaurants, is the unofficial haven for New York vegans and omnivores alike. Vegan bar Pine Box Rock Shop is the name of this hidden gem among the many bars and stores in the area of East Williamsburg. It is nearly a two minute walk from the L train and smack in between Bushwick, Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
This spot offers a unique spin on hand-crafted cocktails by offering everything a bar has to offer in addition to in-house-made plant-based cream liquors. They have their own Creme de Menthe and Bailey’s made from plant based milk unlike any other bar in the area and offer plant-based bar snacks like their savory Jamaican Jerk Empanadas.
Though the bar is filled with every kind of person despite their eating preferences, they host a bi-monthly “Vegan Shop-Up.” This is known as the “biggest cruelty-free bash in NYC.” It is a pop-up market with local vendors. On these days the bar spills out onto the street with people and food with anything you can imagine ranging from seasonal pies, handmade chocolate, chili, hot dogs, ice cream, handmade soaps and of course creative cocktails to go along with the occasion.
This vegan bar also holds other fun activities such as The King of Karaoke, New Joke City and Wednesday Night Trivia. Whatever your preferences are, it’s a great place to have a laid back time, break the ice with some friendly strangers and have creative cocktails.
