December in Colorado has been a treat. We’ve had days warm enough to relive sumer, but cool enough to remember it’s fall. I got to mix one of my favorite summer activities in a fall kind of way: grilling underneath the cotton-candy sky and smelling the smoky bliss of the classic vegan hot dogs and burgers combination. Thanks to Lightlife, I got the opportunity to introduce my grill to a new flavor: Lightlife Smart Dogs.
Lightlife sent me an awesome Picnic Time Caliente Grill Tote, grilling tools and condiments that never get old: Sir Kensington ketchup and mustard. On the next warm evening, my fiance and I headed to the store to buy everything on my grocery list designed for a cookout, set up by a lake and started the grill!
I had never used a charcoal grill before, so this part of the night was enough fun for me. But, soon enough, the grill was hot and the hot dogs began to sizzle minutes after they were heating up. I threw some sliced peppers with olive oil on the grill to add some more crunch and flavor to the hot dogs.
The vegan hot dogs were charring beautifully and cooked quickly – although it felt like I was waiting for an hour for these vegan babies to finish cooking. I was so excited to try them; I had my bun drizzled with mustard and stuffed with peppers in one hand and the other hand free to grab the hot dogs (with appropriate tools, of course) when they were ready.
With just one bite, I made a mental note that these were the vegan hot dogs that I would be committed to buying when craving one. The texture felt real (not rubbery) and the flavors were juicy. I’m even convinced that meat-eaters would love them at a cookout. I didn’t feel the need to dress the hot dog up in any fancy ingredients. The classic, mustard and ketchup drizzle did it for my taste buds. Although, when I’m in a kitchen and not in the wilderness, there are some pretty mouth-watering recipes I would like to try with these.
Lightlife: your vegan hot dogs rock! Bring these for grilling, parties or camping and you and your friends will not be disappointed. Lightlife also sells tempeh, chick’n, beef, sausages and breakfast foods. Keep in mind that some of their products are vegetarian only. Happy grilling!
