American fast food has a bad reputation of overflowing with empty calories and unhealthiness. Amy’s Drive Thru is on a mission to change that. The specific mission of Amy’s Drive Thru is to “return to the roots of American fast food, serving lovingly handcrafted food to nourish hard working citizens, busy families, and road-weary travelers.”
According to the Center of Disease Control, the number one cause of death in the United States is heart disease. Diabetes is one of the top ten causes of death in the United States. Heart disease and diabetes are preventable causes of mortality if individuals eat healthier and stay active.
Health consciousness of adults and families increases as awareness of these health epidemics rises. The lowest incidents of lifestyle induced diseases are in Colorado and California. Therefore, it should not be a surprise that Amy’s Drive Thru is located in Southern California. Classic American dishes such as burgers, french fries, and shakes are prepared and served with a healthier twist.
All menu items are made with organic and non-GMO ingredients. Locally grown fruits and vegetables are used for all dishes. Every item on the menu is under ten dollars. In addition, gluten-free and vegan fast food options are readily available upon request.
Vegan Fast Food Menu
Amy’s Drive Thru has other dishes available aside from conventional burgers and fries. Mexican inspired dishes such as burritos, burrito bowls, and chili are served. Amy’s Drive Thru Chili comes with brown rice, green onion, and optional cheddar cheese and sour cream (for vegetarians). Burritos are organic and come with red rice, lettuce, tomato, and again, optional cheddar cheese and sour cream. Burritos are topped with the Fred Jr.’s signature chipotle salsa (mild or spicy). Fred Sr.’s secret sauce (regular or spicy) is a topping on the organic burgers.
There’s No Such Thing as a Boring Salad…
Herbivores can guiltlessly indulge in the various salads of Amy’s Drive Thru. The Seasonal Salad comes with seasonal lettuce, shredded carrots, shredded cabbage, and cherry tomatoes. The Sweet Salad comes with seasonal lettuces, roasted yellow beets, dried cranberries, and candied pecans. Did Somebody Say Pizza!?
An Italian staple of pizza is on the menu. Amy’s Drive Thru Pizza comes plain or with spinach and also margherita style (can order the toppings on a tomato pie, no cheese). Gluten-free pizza is made with milled sunflower seeds. Consumers of Amy’s Drive Thru can select the following beverages: fresh-squeezed lemonade, iced tea, brewed coffee, and shakes (vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry). Don’t worry, non-dairy shakes are available.
The nutritional comparison of Amy’s Drive Thru with globally recognized fast food restaurants demonstrates that Amy’s Drive Thru has significantly less calories and grams of saturated fat.
